The Group
Our research focuses in particular on designing and evaluating public policies to address sustainability challenges, such as relating to climate change, biodiversity conservation, fishery and forests, air and water quality, and health, with a special focus on distributional issues. To this end, we build on a range of methods, including applied theory, modelling as well as various empirical approaches (surveys, experiments, quasi-experimental analyses).
Our teaching activities focus on providing students with a solid conceptual and theoretical understanding of sustainability challenges and potential solutions as well as state-of-the-art methodological tools to embark on own investigations. To this end, we offer both foundational courses on Sustainability Economics as well as more advanced as well as topical courses, such as on The Economics of Inequality and the Environment.
We actively engage in service and outreach, including co-designing research with governmental institutions or societal actors. Our work is regularly featured in the media and has informed public policy guidance i.a. in Germany, the Netherlands, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
